Extremadura Photos

The website of Steve Fletcher

I am an award winning professional photographer and birding guide residing permanently in Extremadura. Being based in the centre of the region gives me easy access to the many different habitats here, Great and Little Bustards on the steppe, along with Black-bellied and Pin-tailed Sandgrouse and an abundance of larks. Raptors are everywhere in Extremadura, with 20 different species being attainable in a single day, including the much sought after Spanish Imperial Eagle. The sight of 80,000 Cranes in winter is nothing short of spectacular, residing alongside the many species of wader that overwinter here. Living locally I have a vast knowledge of great birding sights unknown to the huge majority of guides travelling here, giving the visitor a greater chance of seeing all their target species.

I am fully conversant with most areas of Spain, having led tours to the Pyrenees, Ebro Delta, Lleida Steppes, Coto Donana and Andujar, as well as my home region of Extremadura. Living locally means I know most Hotel owners, and can cater for all pockets from very welcoming budget 2 star Hostals, to 4 star Hotels with gourmet dining, all located in or around the unspoilt medieval town of Trujillo, birthplace of the 3 most famous Conquistadores. Tours from 1 to 12 people can easily be catered for, with all tours tailor made to suit individuals requirements. Friendly custom designed tours visiting more than one region are my speciality..

I have had many images and articles on birding in Extremadura published in books, magazines, tour brochures and websites, and a small sample of my images can be seen in the galleries here. Most images are available up to A3, and can be mounted and framed if so required.
